Case Study

On Lankgele, an established wine farm near Wellington, Vegtech designed and constructed a new greenhouse project for Domar Boerdery.

Location Western Cape, South Africa
Structure OptiGrow & Tropic
Crop Blueberries
Size 55,000m²
Following Vegtech's success in designing naturally ventilated greenhouses suitable for the region, a combination of the OptiGrow and Tropic models was supplied.

There are three OptiGrow structures covering a total area of more than 4ha. One of the structures has an Aluminet screen that cools in summer, and conserves energy in winter. The OptiGrow is the only structure on the market that is specifically designed for berries, and is strong enough to support an automated screen system.

The two 6,500m² Tropic structures are fitted with Vegtech’s unique downward-opening side curtains, and in conjunction with the 2m roof vents with curtains, excellent ventilation is achieved. Complementing the natural ventilation, the climate control system includes a fogging system, a thermal screen, and circulation fans.

The blueberries are grown in pots on Mapal drainage gutters with spacers and a complete Netafim greenhouse irrigation solution was designed and installed, including drain water collection and UV treatment. The integration of these systems is managed by Netafim’s latest Crop Management Technology (CMT).
